First started Practicing Breathwork:
2009
2009
I had been unwell on and off for 15 years prior and my lungs were the issue. I had reached a dead end with the medical solutions and the Doctor recommended surgery in 2009 to get a clear diagnosis. This did not sit well with me,I had so many answered queries. During a period of remission of my symptoms I decided to search for tools to help me accept 'what is'. I had resolved not to fight the condition anymore but to embrace and accept my journey. I was searching for something that would help me to be calm amidst the storm. In sharing with a colleague at work I was directed to TIBA Africa breathwork office as we worked in the same building.
Six months down the line of my breathwork journey (I was purposing to have at least two sessions every week) I started receiving complements in how great my complexion had improved. I was not coughing as much, I once overheard a colleague at work argue there was no way I was in the office because she had not heard me cough. My brother also once commented to me, "I did not know you were home I haven't heard you cough". My uncle told me mother what is she doing she looks great, and my mother asked me not to stop whatever I was doing. My niece at that time was around 8 years old told me you do not get angry as much nowadays is it the books you are reading. I had taken to reading all the books available at the TIBA office to understand what breathwork was and how it worked. I have enjoyed a full 11 years feeling empowered and able to navigate my life free of meds and hospital visits. I also trained to become a facilitator to help me share this tool especially with my family.
I have learnt that not all disease and discomfort arises from pathogens. In some instances our emotions and responses to how our life unfolds could be blocked or repressed and this could be the problem. Breathwork allows you a glimpse into your inner world and in the same instant a way to regulate and navigate the ripples that form when we have unprocessed emotion.
Transformational Breath is my favourite but other conscious breathing modalities work just as well. I was given the opportunity and sponsored to attend GIC 2018 in France by IBF, at the GIC is the best and safest space to sample other/all breathwork in my opinion.
